We are in the thick of Taurus season, which started on April 21st and continues until May 21st. Taurus is a fixed sign, meaning it is the middle of a season, spring in this case. Fixed signs bring a sense of consistency, stability, sustainability, and a resistance to change. Taurus and the other fixed signs Leo, Scorpio, and Aquarius represent the core essence of whatever element they correspond with. Taurus is the first Earth sign we encounter in the wheel of the year. Earth signs are “down to earth,” stable, grounding, practical, hard workers, and connected to the physical or material world.
I feel this is greatly represented by the Bull, the symbol of Taurus. The bull is very much of the earth. Its horns are reminiscent of crescent moons, and therefore represent fertility. Consider the celebration of Beltane and the many forms fertility can take. Taurus rules the 2nd House, which governs possessions, assets, resources, and wealth- tangible or intangible. This house can represent what and who we value and appreciate. Taurus is governed by the planet Venus, which I reviewed in my Pisces post. Taurus is connected to the head, neck, throat, vocal chords, and thyroid.
Below are some of the traits Taurus embodies:
Steady, Stable, Secure
Stubborn, Controlling, Can be inflexible
Needs time to think, adjust, assimilate
Kind, Gentle, Generous, Affectionate
Careful, Methodical, Calculated, Deliberate
Possessive, Greedy
Jealous, Resentful
Patient, calm
Great love of beauty/sensual things: food, music, art
Luxurious
Reliable, Practical
Determined, Strong Willed, Endurance
Defensive of values
Lazy, Self indulgent
In my natal chart, Mercury is found in the sign of Taurus in my 9th House. The planet Mercury was named after the messenger of the Gods. It rules intellect and the mind, which rules communication, reasoning, self consciousness, awareness/perception. So for me, since Taurus is very slow and steady, it stabilizes the potential impulsive nature of my sun sign in Aries. My thought processing is a bit slower and thrives on learning through experience or methodical learning at my own pace than just reading textbooks. Hence this year long process! I tediously read various books to synthesize information about the aspects of my natal chart to understand it more, not just read the information and move on.
This flows right into the meaning of the 9th House, which relates to higher learning, philosophy, religion, long distance travel, and mental and spiritual horizons. It shows us the ways in which we accumulate and process knowledge to build our own life philosophy and search for meaning. This house leads us to understands our ethics, morals, and ideals. Taylor suggests that someone like me, I have a gift for languages and interests in a wide range of subjects with a patient approach to learning. I would love to travel this world, but I don’t like flying much. I believe this placement aligns with my love for astral travel and the learning I gain there.
Because Mercury rules Virgo, my rising/ascendant sign, Mercury is my overarching ruling planet. Since it is in the 9th house, the direction of my life is based in a need to communicate, learn, and share information that is important to me. I seek to find meaning, adventure, and share my ideas with the world through teaching and life-long learning. Well there is the underpinning of why I might have been drawn to create this blog, love internship supervision, and dream of being a high priestess of my own coven. And my overall style of achieving this with through the energy of Taurus.
Taurus energy can also be found in my 10th House, or also known as the Midheaven. The Midheaven is the top of the sky when we are born and where the sun is at noon. It represents what we identify with in life and we often will closely align with the qualities of the sign it is in, but not always have those qualities directly. The 10th house and Midheaven relate to our occupational calling and what we aspire to achieve. It also signifies our public image, standing in society, and reputation. In addition, it can also tell us information about authority figure, such as parents. So for me, my approach to my vocation is down to earth and I might remain fixed in one job or field, which has been very true for me!
Taurus also has influence on my Pallas placement. Pallas is an asteroid related to the Goddess Athena. It has similar functions to mercury in that is relates to processes of the mind, but Pallas focuses in on the patterns we recognize while also how we zoom out as we consider creativity and solving problems. It paints the way we learn and teach. It helps link cognition with intuition. According to astrology.com my perception “is about sensuality and seeking beauty in thought.”
I have to give it to my spirit team because my husband has been pulling oracle cards for me lately as a way to help me through our IVF journey right now and this is what he pulled for me as I am writing this post: Beauty and “Step into the unknown; a new discovery awaits you.” I think this sums up my connection with Taurus!
